Microsoft (MSFT) has increased its stake in OpenAI to 27% ($135B) and secured a contract for OpenAI to purchase an incremental $250B in Azure services. This deal strengthens Microsoft's position in AI, extending its IP rights through 2032 and allowing independent pursuit of AGI. However, Microsoft loses IP rights until AGI is developed by OpenAI, and OpenAI can now use other cloud providers for non-API products and serve US government customers independently.
